old guitar. Doesn't have strings. says cMf across top, and then "artin" going down where the string pegs are.
looks like pearl? letters, and the same kind of pearl? goes up every other notch on neck. Also a bunch of old 78 records.
Earlier today, my great aunt and my sister posted a guitar and some records for sale on this site. They had been cleaning out my great aunt's attic, and came across the items.
After posting, they received some 60 emails regarding the Martin guitar within several hours. ONE email, and I'm sure the gentleman that sent it knows who he is, warned my sister and aunt that the guitar may be worth more than they were asking for it, and that they should contact Martin in Nazereth, PA.
As it turns out, the guitar is a 1940 D-45. The reason it didn't have any strings on it was that my great uncle had taken them off the day he bought it, fearing the years in the Army he had just joined might warp the guitar. He didn't return from the war, unfortunately, and the guitar was never played.
Thank you, who ever you are, for warning my sister and great aunt. An innoscent, yet horrific mistake would have been made had it not been for your honesty.
