Vintage Martin Brazilian & Adirondack 00 12-fret tone. Big sound for a small body. Full, defined, clear, open Martin 00 voice. A pleasure to play and hear.
A great looking player's vintage guitar with enough wear to really look the part, and enough restoration to lower the price.
Though I very much wish I could keep it, I'm looking to pass this guitar to someone who will love it for what it is - a magnificent fingerstyle guitar. It has taught me how to finger pick since I bought it, but I am looking to move to something a bit more heavily built for rhythm play in a group.
Although this instrument is pre-20's, it can handle standard lights. No joke - I've had world class luthiers tell me that's what they actually recommend on it, so that's not just my opinion. Newtone Heritage .012 - .051 are my favorites (131 total lbs string tension). It cannot handle anything heavier than lights.
Restoration done in TJ Thompson's shop, c.2002. Perfect set up by Bill Tippin in Marblehead, Mass, in 2007. Waverly tuners (originals in case). Replacement bridge, tuners, saddle, bar frets (old stock from TJ), and nut.
Maple bridge plate overlay (TJ's shop). Some oil varnish finish work done as noted below in the link to this instrument's history (TJ's shop) which make the back and sides a bit shiny. All else original.
Several forum members played and really liked this guitar while it was on consignment at Vintage Instruments in Philadelphia before I purchased it.
