One thing I never thought of when I had a K&K installed in my H&D CM was that a feedback buster would be too small to fit in the large soundhole. I was
googling for large soundhole plugs, but didn't really find anything I was certain would work. I am not interested in those goofy overly ornate lute things.
Does anyone know of one that is available or what have you used as a remedy, short of sticking tape on the guitar? i thought of buying some styrofoam and
fashioning one, but I am clumsy about such things and it would look really stupid.

Brian,
That is a darn good question! I haven't played in bands loud enough to need one in quite a while, certainly not since I did the "half-Tony" on my D-28. I had not even thought of the large soundhole plug issue. No answer, but at least it's on my our radar now. Dave Kentucky Dave's Martins: 00-28H (2006 Custom); SP000-16R (1999 Special Edition);

Yeah, Bob and why I should never think of fashioning anything.

Brian,
Maybe you could take a tour of the Martin factory and pick up one of the soundhole cutouts in a size large enough to use. Of course, finding a way to keep the plug in the soundhole might be problematic. Oh well, so much for my idea, too.

Half Tony (Rice). The full Tony is a 4 9/16 soundhole. I think the half is about 4 1/4" or the like.

I have one of the black rubber ones, but hate the "bottled up" sound that I get when using it. Seems like it dampens the top vibration, which
adversly affects my tone, even though the guitar is plugged in. I've found that with proper use of the notch filter, EQ, etc., I don't have a big
enough feedback problem to even need the cover.

JP,
In acoustic settings you are probably correct. However, if you get into situations where you're playing a plugged in D-28 with a Tele to your right, a Strat and Precision bass to your left, and a drummer behind you while you're cranking out some LOUD rockabilly Dwight Yoakam - Watch out if you aren't using that plug! We used to make them out of thin plywood veneer or stiff cardboard covered in courderoy.
