I recently bought a Yasuma acoustic in a pawn shop for $135.00 Australian dollars.Its a model 250b,in a black to yellow sunburst. Martin dread body shape,Martin style headstock,fully ivoroid bound,m.o.p.inlaid Yasuma on headstock.Looks to be about 20 years old in great cond. Intonation spot on. Does anyone know anything about them?I would appreciate any info you have,Harmony central only had one review. thanks. b.j

Apparently they also make mandos cause I found a few references to them as well. One thing I found out, Yasuma is as popular a name in the East as Smith is here. I found photographers named Yasuma, as well as Doctors, Scientists, Saki makers, and some reference to flat head catfish that were discovered by someone named Yasuma... John R.

08/14/03 8:54 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	a lot of Japanese makers include the price, in thousnads of yen, in their model numbers , yours may mean the guitar sold for 25000 yen. The B could be for Burst.

08/14/03 9:57 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Many thanx pchanne eh! wow sounds like alot of yen , I dont know how much that converts to in aud$ but i'll work it out,I think the pawn shop made a major mistake selling this beautiful guitar for $135,it was hanging on the wall surrounded by real bad guitars,that were two and three times the price.Thanks for your input,hope things are good for you in japan regards b.j.

08/20/03 6:22 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've owned a few yasumas and i'm fond of them. IMHO japan had a mini "golden era" in the late 70's with companies like Yasuma, Daion, Yari and others churning out very nice martin style acoustics at a ridiculously affordable price. I consider the Yasuma "newance" produced from @1978 - 1982 were superb and retailed at around AUS$225-275. I don't think Yasuma produced a guitar over the AUS$300 mark As with all makes there were some dogs but most were great value for money and open up beautifully. As far as I know a rival company bought out Yasuma (and daion) and forced them to start making trash. A great pity. I'm unfamilliar with your model but would suggest you hold onto it and love it. I gave my brother a '79 Yasuma newance in '81 now it sounds amazing. wish i'd held onto mine regards ashley

08/21/03 7:00 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	right, sounds like a lot but they sell some Baker electrics for 800,000 yen these days. 25000 yen was not a lot then , it`s not a lot now. BUT that doesn`t mean it`s not good. Old Yamahas of the 70`s and 80`s sell for more now than they did new. In Japan of course.

08/25/03 12:42 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Hey Ashley,thanks for the input,I think youre right about the yasumas,I really love this guitar,it has opened up beautifuly,and barre chords sound as bright and jangly as open chords,it also stays in perfect tune with a capo on,so it was a great buy(totaly unmarked).Funny you should mention Daion,I bought one of those for my daughter,it was a slimline acoustic(black with a piezzo p/u,sorta solid body acoustic when you looked in the soundhole,and it was a great guitar.I used to DI it into my tascam for home recording and it was a realy well intonated guitar,not sure what year but approx 87-88,sorry to hear you gave your yasuma to your bro but hey its got a good home right?and its still in the family:D Anyway Ashley thanks again hope to talk to you again(p.s are you in australia) cheers b.j Pchanne,konichiwa (sorry about the spelling )good to hear from you again,youre right about the old yamahas I love em never met an old one i didnt like(a real workhorse)You said in an earlier post you sold your martin(krikey) are you still playing and if so (hope so) what are you using?Also if you have time id love to hear your opinions on Tokai acoustics,you can get them down here but they cost the earth(look great though) anyway mate thanks for your response ,look f/ward to hearing from you again best wishes from OZ regards b.j

08/26/03 9:41 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	hi. yup still playing, at this time I have a Larrivee OM Lite... 7/8 size body, A lakewood M-22 walnut, a Yamaha LL33-J all solid wood beautiful guitar, a Morris with a b-band pick-up. Have a Larrivee OM-01 but it`s in Canada, I left it there last Christmas. Now, got a few electrics too, but too many to list here. I have a Tokai strat that I love, the acoustics are rare here. From what I`ve read, some are great while others are less so, not unusual but apparently the model makes a big difference in terms of quality of woods and workmanship. Sure would like to decide for myself but haven`t been able to find one in this city. There is a beautiful sunburst one on the Japanese web at this time and one of the pics has a reference to Martin on a label inside the guitar. Bit pricey but what a looker. Always a pleasure chatting with a fellow commonwealther... that a word? Lots of Aussies here in Japan, never met one I didn`t get along with.

Can't wait to move back to tassie (in about 5 years) hopefully with some more trout water under our belt. £'s buy a lot of land in tassie tight lines, ashley

Lake Leake,went to tassie one time to fish Lake Leake ,but got stuck in the L.L pub(you know the one in the middle of the bush)never did make it to the lake I used to build custom rods for a living,everything from flyrods to stand up game,dont do it anymore thoughdue to poor eyesight,never mind I can still see the fretboard.I just live up the road from Moonee Ponds,almost at Tullamarine airport,as I look out my window I can see the airport,hope you get back to Tassie someday,Bruny Island is the best,I fished down there about two years ago,absolutely fantastic,got some salmon and monster flatties etc,land is pretty cheap down there also.What are you doing in London?do you play at all?anyway mate its great talking to you,hope to hear from u soon. regards b.j (brian) p.s. this is one great forum

09/17/03 8:31 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Hi. I bought a YASUMA guitar in the early 70s (approx 1972). it is a Yasuma custom. in black and yellow sunburst. It also has some white edging. It was second hand when i bought it and it cost £20 (uk). Great guitar for the money but i cant find much info about it. I can post a photo of it if anyone wants! The headstock logo which was painted on has unfortunatly been rubbed off. It seemed to be in the style of a Martin Logo, with a word like nazarath underneath. I may try to restore this at some point if somebody could forward me a photo of a similar guitar to copy. Thanx Cam.
