Red Brand Light Strings Review
Red Strings Light Gage. (.12's)
I have been experimenting with strings on my Martin CEO4r. In general I have tried nearly 5 different Martin brand strings, and more recently Elixirs, and just today a new brand called "Red".
A Guitar Center Rep said I had to have them, and I thought why not.
The strings are copper, not cheap, and I was hoping they would not disappoint, but they have. They are very high tension strings, first off, which I am not used to. Secondly they are kind of dull. The Martin CEO4R is a very bright slope shoulder dreadnaught usually, and I typically describe its tone as halfway between a Taylor and a Gibson Hummingbird. The Red strings make the CEO4R sound like a Hummingbird with tight, old strings.
I don't regret the experiment, but I won't buy them again. While I like the idea of mellowing and warming the tone of the Martin CEO4r sometimes, these strings took it to an extreme.
I am not bashing, but just posting to be helpful and add my 2 cents to the community.
Good weekend all, and GO PSU.
