(10/16/10 2:36 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None I enjoyed making my extremely modest Catalpa OM and documenting it here at UMGF, so I thought I'd do something a little more ambitious for you, and probably more up your alley. This may start off a little slowly as I am going to Woodstock next week for Baker Rorick's festival, and then plan to visit Laurent Brondel's shop in Maine for a couple of days. This will be a non-cutaway Schoenberg Soloist, BRW and Italian Spruce, and trimmed out (to the best of my knowledge as coached by Eric) as Martin would have done an OM- 45 just after they dropped the bar-frets. I WILL use an adjustable truss rod, and some of the details inside the guitar will be done my way rather than Martins, as I think we've learned a couple of things over time. I joined the top and back today. I have chosen wood of high middle quality from that which I have had around for many years now. First priority was sonic potential and visual character similar to BRW of "the day"; straight tight grain and near perfect quarter. I allowed a slight visual blemish and a tiny worm hole, which is all that keeps this from being mastergrade by the old rules IMO. Here's your first glimpse:

(10/16/10 5:46 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	You can't smell this? It is hard to take pics of unfinished top material and have it look like much. I assure you this is a heck of nice top. I got it from Rivolta in 2000. A bit finer toward the center (left), but pretty even all the way across and only a tiny bit of color confined to the upper bout. So subtle I doubt you'll see it.

Calophyllum is a flowering plant genus of around 180-200 species of tropical evergreen trees in the family Clusiaceae. The lightweight hardwood of these species is used in boatmaking for masts and spars, as well as in luxury furniture and flooring". so .... i'll bite - assuming you are referring to a "lightweight hardwood", is it for linings ..... tail blocks ....... go bars ...... enquiring minds want to know TIA, oz

(10/18/10 9:07 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I may have been wrong suggesting tentalone as a synonym for peone. Peone are individual blocks as opposed to lining strips. They are individually placed and irregular in size, at least as I implement them. They allow (demand!) more control over the stiffness of the top/rib connection, and also distributes the stress of that connection in a more natural manner, more like the fractal nature of the real world; my salute to Mandelbrot.
