I have recently been lusting over the pictures of the Recording King RD-227 on guitar hut, which leads me to a couple of questions. 1.) Does anyone know the sound characteristics of this guitar? 2.) Does anyone have experience dealing with guitar hut? For $650.00 with case, this seems like a nice deal, considering the solid wood, blingy appointments, MOP headstock, etc. I don't need this guitar by any means, but I can't seem to get the darn thing out of my mind, so feel free to talk me out of purchasing this beautiful knock-off of a pre-war Martin. 10/03/09 9:22 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	It is one of the very few dreds under $1,000 that has a 1 3/4" nut like the OMs. Even the other RK dreds have 1 11/16" nuts. The profile is on the full side - perfect if you have big hands. Yes, they are as nice as they look. Being a dealer myself, I cannot comment on the price that you posted except that it's below MAP. 10/03/09 10:49 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have one. Had it a year. It's a nice guitar but not spectacular. Gets a bit plunky thunky at times. It cannot be played too hard or sound suffers. The tone is a tad more trebley than say, a Martin DR. It does sound OK. When I play towards the softer side, it has a nice rosewood tone. Strumming is OK and it's a OK rhythm guitar. It stays in tune just as well as my good Martin. But it's missing something. It's not bad for a $600 dollar guitar but it will never replace a Martin. Personally, I don't care for the bling. I got it because it had a 1 3/4" nut width and was rosewood. I love the Mod V neck which is identical to the Martin Mod V neck on my Martin. They have Grover Sta-tites on them now. Gold. That is nice. A word of caution Quality control has been a problem with RK's. I have the RD227 because the previous two RK's I had each had to be returned due to QC issues. (within a month, both times) Two lifting bridges and one with a bad neck angle. One of those was the RO-127 which is a 000 size rosewood. I miss that one. So my take on them is, OK guitar, just not exciting. It's my travel, festival, guitar where I can tolerate risk for it but not my Martin. They have good warrenty service. If you get one with problems they will take care of you. I concluded they are decent people. The Vendor was a bit more a problem due to communication issues but in the end was OK but I won't buy from them anymore. This was my first online guitar buying experience. Oh...and by the way, just saw Gordon Lightfoot at the Pavillion (our Arts center that seats around 800 people) and he was fabulous. 10/03/09 10:15 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I suppose I could have been a little more positive on the guitar. Some days, I enjoy playing it alot. Don't let me put you off completely by any means. It IS a good guitar. It would be best to actually pick the one you want in person but barring that, a trusted vendor is a good alternative. Try Mike who posted above? Like I said, the warrenty is GOOD. Several others have RK's and they have done fine. If you do buy it examine it carefully and return it if not perfect. Like I said, some days, I play the daylights out of it. Just don't expect it to be a Martin.

10/22/09 5:51 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Brad, While I can't comment much on the RD-227 (because I'm not a bling fan nor a wide nut fan, I've not paid much attention to that model during my visits to RK headquarters), I have seen a general improvement in the Recording King quality control since the inception of the brand (yep... I was around playing prototypes before they bore the Recording King name). I have an RD-26 (solid Engelmann over solid mahogany) which I've had for at least a year & 1/2 now. Very nice sounding and playing guitar. Even with the 1 11/16" nut, the neck is much more of a handful than my old "full thickness" D-28 or '99 low profile 0000-28H. My memory of the RD-227 was when it was very new. Bling, fat neck, good sound, but I only saw/played one or two of them in the very early days. TML does a good job of standing behind their products. If you order one, I think you might ask the place you get one to make sure you are getting a more recent production (tell them to look at the serial number and figure out the manufacture date) so as to lessen the anquish of having to use any warranty PITA. 11/12/09 11:57 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I've tried a few Recording Kings and find them to be too bright and brassy sounding, but many people love them. A word of caution on Guitar Hut- their website is full of misinformation about particular models, make sure you check the Recording King website to get correct specs. Also their standard setup was not to my liking at all, make sure you call them to get a decent setup.
