Gotcha - I understand now. 
If I can find an aquarium pump that costs $150 then I'll have one that does exactly what the Tonerite does.... Otherwise the Tonerite is grossly overpriced.

I think the discussion point of this thread is not whether TR is overpriced, but whether it works. May I suggest we put the price issue aside.

Price is relevant to me. Might not be to you. From what I hear, the D-18 Authentic is the top dog Martin. Yet that puppy costs a lot. Out of my price range.
As a consumer I always have to balance out the perceived value versus the monetary cost of any item offered for sale in the market place. Call me a cheapskate but I have passed on the $120 capos out there because I can't justify spending that when my Shubbs and PW NS capos work so well at less than 25% of the cost of the high end capos. I have no doubt that these capos are wonderful. I would probably love one. Given my economic realities now, I won't be buying one. Therefore, for me the percieived benefit can await a better price point in the future given my suspicions about what it must cost to make one of these. And shucks, my D-18VS is sounding pretty darn good these days and I am not suffering for lack of tone. Not to disrespect others desire for better tone. I hope to get one some day myself. Price is relevant to me. Price may be relevant to you, but the original question was about whether or not it worked. From my experience, anything that vibrates the top will work. If the Toneright does the job without the danger of coming unfastened and marking up the top that's just gravy on the taters. I've been using a 1949 back massager that my dad brought from Japan since probably 1969, and it works.

I've been reading this thread with interest since I've used stereo speakers in the past for this. I like the idea of the aquarium pump and when I saw
the name Conair, something clicked in my memory. I dug into the back of the closet and BINGO, there's my old vibrator with all the attachments, must be 25+
years old. I chose an attachment that would wedge between the strings and set on the bridge saddle. I recently scored a Silver Creek beater that's brand
new and perfect for this test.
I have the guitar hanging on the wall and the pic below explains the rest. It has a low & high speed, so I'll start out with low tonight and see what happens. Maybe in the morning my SC will be in pieces, who knows but I just couldn't resist. So experts, do I have the placement about right? Suggestions welcome.

Nope, good statement but bad analogy. Paying $4k+ for an Esteban that has the same EADGBE strings as a D-18A won't make it sound like a D-18A. Pay what you want for an aquarium pump - it still ain't a Tone-Rite. If you've used one you'll understand that. Just my .02, Gary |

I'm on day three with the Tonerite--I have it for a week. I'm having a hard time imagining a jury-rigged aquarium pump or ConAir is going to work the
same way. The Tonerite lodges firmly between the strings, and seems to transfer the vibration energy very effectively and safely to the guitar. Clearly it is a
simple pump-type vibrator with a cheapo dimmer switch, but the footing makes a very solid connection to the guitar. I'm sure the dovetail crowd can
appreciate this.
I will be happy to post results from the first 72 hours tomorrow. I'll probably run it again before I send it to the next guy for a total of six days.

So, I pulled the tonerite off last night. Nothing dramatic, but a definite increase in sustain across the boards, and a smoothing out of the tone, particularly
in the mids. I do not find much difference in the bass response other than slightly more sustain. The trebles have smoothed out a bit.
I would say that so far, there is a small but clear change for the better. A really good guitar is a clear bit better guitar this morning. I'm going for a second 72 hours tonight, as I have to ship the tonerite off to the next cat at the end of the week.

You fellas using the Tonerite should read the bridgeslotomy thread, and slot your bridges or have it done professionally. From what I've read in this
thread about improvements in the quality of bass and treble tone, sustain and tuneability - all can be realized very quickly by slotting the bridge. Get those
strings seated squarely on the flat surface of the bridge plate, get rid of the slotted pins, and you'll hear the difference.
