Fantastic news! I know how hard it is to get someone off the tube once it's in place because they had to do that for my Dad last year. It's a big step
forward.
Hopefully the rest will be easier. Don't discount the therapy dog either. They are great stress and anxiety relievers. Still keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers. -Jim

Bill,
Bill, I find that every time I pick up my guitar to play lately, I find myself thinking of you smiling warmly in the Morgan Room song circle as I sweated and stumbled through my first Nazfest last summer. I'm sure that smile has been hard to maintain some lately but Paula is a luck lady to have that shining on her in this tough time. Be as good to your self as you can and know there are warm smiles headed your way from a lot of our hearts. I hope to meet Paula one day. As an old medicine follower it sound like she is in very good hands. I'm learning some Darrel Scott thanks to you. And I'm learning to sing a bit thanks to those Morgan Room nights. Peace and angels rest to you both, Bob

Bill, et al
I just checked Bill's latest update on CarePages ( from this morning). Paula has been moved from ICU to a regular room ( a step down unit, maybe?) She has even been standing for a few mins. All great news! I don't want to horn in on Bill's updates, but thought this was worth sharing.

Hi Friends
Margaret- you are not horning in at all. I'd call it doing me a favor- thanks! Here's the update from Friday and Saturday mornings. Goodbye ICU.. Movin' on up!!
Posted 1 day ago
Sorry this is a little late, but we moved : ) Last night around 9 we got the word Paula was stable and no longer needed the ICU. So she transferred to the 5th floor at CVC. Nice room- with a couch! So I stuck around. Paula didn't get to sleep until late, I forgot about writing until this morning. A lot happened Thursday. PT had her out of bed- she stood with help for 2 minutes, and again for about 1 minute. The JP line came out. Speech showed up and said Paula would start therapy Friday- Swallow study and talking. She's ready for both!. The nurse/practioner from ICU suggested acute-rehab so we are awaiting word as to where she goes next. And thanks to all the wonderful friends at North! I planned on getting over there this morning, but will have to wait til next week. Paula just wrote a note "Up by 8 am"... she's ready to rock!

Good Morning! The team up here is fantastic. Since Paula was having a restful night, they guarded her from unimportant visits and coordinated things so they disrupted her rest as little as possible. The results... we both slept until 8 am. Maybe a new record. The 5th floor is so much more quiet and peaceful than ICU. Yesterday PT & OT worked with her to get her standing 2x. Her Discharge Planner stopped by to reinforce our choices of rehab. St Joes #1, UMH #2 She mentioned Paula would probably not be into rehab before the end of next week. The next few days will tell us if she's candidate for acute or sub-acute. Paula developed pneumonia in her left lung a while back. It's effects waned a bit, but now are back but in a better way. She's coughing more and the coughs are productive. I've learned- don't stand in front of her when she's being suctioned. Have a great view of the courtyard from here. Several trees showing off their colors which Paula noticed right away when she stood up. She's itchin' to get outside- hopefully we have another "Indian Summer" on tap for a few days. I ran into one of Paula's nurses from NICU. She said all of NICU follows her on the computer- another form of CarePages. No surprise, she's touched a lot of people in the several stops she's made in this hospital. More PT, rest, suctioning today. Thanks for your thoughts & prayers, bill & PAULA
