Expert opinions needed about this E-Bay guitar |

I would appreciate if some of you kind folks would mind looking at the pictures of this Gibson CW. The exterior of the guitar is clean and I've always had
a hankering for this model. What I'd really like would be for whoever looks at the pictures, look closely at the last picture that shows the inside of the
top and bracing. You'll notice that the brace ends have been repaired with cloth and glue. Does this look kosher ? Does it look like the brace's have
been shaved down at all ? I've been in contact with the seller and we have an agreed upon price but I wanted to get some input before I pull the trigger.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Here's a link: [link]http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eB...26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1[link/]
The cloth looks the same as the cloth on the center x, so it night be original, but the glue job is pretty sloppy. I bet it's just a funky old repair. It
doesn't look damaged though.

Kt, thank's for the link. If your talking about the sloppy glue job on the kerfing, that is typical for older Gibsons and looks original. I've just
never seen the cloth used like that except for the X brace junction.

I have seen that before on 60's Gibsons . The 66 Epi Texan I just had , had the exact same thing .Looks original to me .

How did that sound, Sean? Did it sound more like a '50s J-45 or a cheap Chinese dread? The fingers and tone bars meeting the main braces at full height is
very like a cheap Chinese guitar, and cannot have been good for tone.

Ted,
Never mind the finger and tone bars . What about the football field size bridge plate? Joking aside I was pretty surprised by this guitar . I had only bought it to do a few repairs and sell it (which is what I did) because I have never liked any adjustable bridge Gibsons . But this one has a decent tone definitely closer to a 50's J45 than an import just not as (insert your own adjective) as an earlier J45. All the wood and hardware keep it from being that , but you can definitely tell it is in there. It would have made a nice beater , but the neck is to narrow. Sean |

I've just never seen the cloth used like that except for the X brace junction. The cloth is factory for Gibsons in that period. Gibson butted the braces where they joined, to gain some strength from bracing that is smaller. The butt joint is not very strong, hence the cloth reinforcements. John |

While I see no obvious signs of bridge place repacement, the ball ends of the strings do not appear sunken at all. I would have expected more bridge place wear/sinking than what is there. If the plate is original it appears in excellent condition to me. |

Frank - I sure do like your taste in guitars. That is a beauty. One of my favorite guitars was an old C & W. Just classic cowboy tone. The kind of
guitar that would be at home in a living room or in front of a fire pit.
Do report back if you get it. Cheers! Mike |
