Stopped into a GC on a whim today and there were the typical Martin suspects hanging on the wall: D-28, HD-28, HD-28V, a couple Road Series, I think an OMC-16RE AURA ... and a D-35. Don't really know why, but I have never cared enough about the D-35 to play it, maybe it is the 3-piece back I have been opposed to. Well, after playing the others, I picked this one up and played it since the pickings were so slim. Um, wow? I felt like a frickin' rock star playing this thing. It was not the tone that struck me, but the playability. I was fretting like a guitar GOD! I looked up the specs when I got home - besides the black pickguard, 3-piece back and bound fretboard the specs are identical to my HD-28. Is the fingerboard a different radius? Does the binding on the fingerboard force me to color inside the lines? Dunno, but I didn't fret one squeaker the whole time I played it, rare for me.
