Happy belated b'day, Mike.
I know this sounds like the same old tune, but keep fighting! Don't give way to Mr. Frustration. When it seems like progress has stopped, it has only
slowed down...unless you stop it.

Nearly four weeks since my stroke. Hard to believe that time flies by so quickly. I am home now and an outside rehab company is supposed to start working with
me tomorrow. Thanks for the many email and calls. It's nice to know that one isn't alone.
I have a little movement in most parts of my left arm, hand and leg - nothing yet in other parts. That so many things have to work together for anything to happen is something I have never dealt with before "(and no reason I should have, of course). Playing any instrument will take longer but I am working towards that goal. Walking is possible with a cane but not at all pretty. I nearly fell tripping over a 3/16" piece of threshold molding - gotta be more careful as I cannot bend my leg against gravity. As I used to joke in my childrens' shows: "I can't wait to be impatient!" Till now, I didn't know how true that would be for me. Warmest regards and well wishes.

Mike, good to hear from you and that there is progress. Walking is a good start it seems. Be careful of course. It's good to hear you are home. That's
got to help with moral. Wow four weeks. Hopefully the recovery will speed up some. Out of curiosity how is your singing voice doing?

Best wishes to you.
I was just thinking, once you get some moderate movement, perhaps try an E-Z Chord ? Pushing 1 button at a time is definitely a start until you are 100% once again. |

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers. Here is an update.
Progress is slow but I can walk with a cane. It's not pretty but I can get around. Went to an outdoor concert on the Santa Cruz beach yesterday and had to hike nearly 1/4 mile to and from parking - I was exhausted but it felt great to do so. I saw Greg Rollie and band doing songs off of the first 3 Santana albums - nice to hear those songs again with the original singer and he still plays a mean B3. My left hand and arm are about 15%. I can now tie my shoes with two hands. It is so weird to live in a world where this is a major accomplishment - bu it is. I took a gig to play bass tonight. I am sure that it will be mostly keyboard w/ my right hand but I will bring along my old '67 EB-0. I have found that, if I hold it like a cello, I can get a few notes in first position so I will try it on a couple of songs. If I don't do this, there is no bass tonight so anything I can contribute is good. The job doesn't pay so I am feeling no pressure at all. I just hope I have the stamina to last the evening. Last time any of the band saw me I was flat on my back in the hospital so this will be good. I have picked up a 5 string banjo and guitar to see if I can make anything happen. Nothing yet but I am working hard on it. I am determined to figure this out. The support that I have received from this forum has been unexpected and most welcome. I am blessed to live in an age where I can be connected and have some outlet for communication during my disability. I would have driven myself nuts without a laptop even though it takes me 4 times the time and energy to post anything with only one hand.

Progress can be mind-numbingly slow at this stage of recovery but it's obvious that you have the right mindset to make it back. Respect. Best/Don |

Having watched family members navigate similar straits, I know how slow and how much work even the smallest progress involves. I also know that, like most of
life, when you give up trying the game is over.
I've always been impressed with your posts. Now I'm impressed with the man behind them. Prayers and best wishes continue from here.

I too feel for you and will add you in prayers , I have not the slightest idea how I would approach a similar situation in my life other than continue to try
to play my guitar as my own form of therapy even if it was only one of the three cords I know......,Greg.
