Tried a 000-28EC today |

All I have to say is that is one fat neck. It would definitely take some time to get used to. The whole guitar felt shorter to me (used to playing dreads)

The neck is pretty much a fingerstyle neck as is the whole instrument, imho. Made for Clapton's fingerstyle playing. A great guitar and pretty easy on the
hands once you had played it just a little bit.

Love my 00028EC | ||

Love my 00028EC, and not just because my wife picked out for a birthday present (Yes, she is wonderful).
Honestly the best I've played, and has cured my acoustic GAS. Pretty much. At least set the standard high, let's go with that angle. Fine, fine guitar, can't say enough good about it! |

The neck is fat, especially past the 10th fret or so. I've had mine for 3 years and I am still getting used to it.
The tone is great. Very warm and mellow. Maybe the mellowest steel string I've played. I love it fingerstyle, flatpicked and strummed. I am pretty amazed every time I play it.

Yep, I love my 000-28EC, it's a great sounding guitar for sure. The short scale and 000 size make for a very comfy playing guitar and the mod V makes the
thumb-over style a bit easier for me. To top it off, the guitar looks killer, and always gets noticed when it comes out of it's case.

I love just about everything about my 000-28EC (could do without the signature though). It's a lifer. I love the neck. I bought this guitar strickly for
fingerstyle and the neck is perfectly suited for that style of playing IMO. I have average size hands (I'm 5'10") and have some arthritis and
find the modified V neck more comfortable and easier to play than the low profile neck on my HD-28. My hand tends to cramp up using the low profile neck.
Someday I see myself selling my HD-28 (a sad day for sure) to get a D-28 Marquis with the modified V neck.

I've had mine for 3 years and I am still getting used to it.I used 80/20s and bone pins on mine to brightened it up. What string are you using; you have changed them since you got them, haven't you? -Lee

My 000-28ec is great. Yes the neck can take some getting used to if you regularly play electric or the lower profile necks. That being said, for finger picking
and thumb over, this neck is the best. I'll take the fat neck any day of the week. I run 13's on mine with fairly high action. The short scale helps
with the tension, and the thing plays like butter. You may want to look at some lower profile necks if you're hands can't handle the larger necks. Good
Luck...

Mine, too, is the warmest, mellowest steel string that I've owned. And that is what I like best about it. Well, apart from the comfort and looks....

hogwldfltr: I use Martin FX PB Lights. Before that Martin PB Fingerstyles. Before that various.
You will think I am nuts but I've had these strings on it for 9 months. They still sound great, they are not grungy or anything. I have sprayed "Fingerease Lubricant" on the strings a couple of times. That cleans them. I keep it in the case when not playing it. I use to change the strings almost monthly. Then I found out I actually like the tone best after the strings are a couple weeks old. Sometimes I play the guitar and I think OK the strings are dead, but the next day it sounds great again. I have no idea why; humidity? My ears? I do play with my nails which is inherently brighter; sometimes I use a thumbpick. Flatpicks: I prefer Clayton .80 mm. I've used all kinds of picks and these Claytons sound the best on this guitar, they are snappy sounding. I think I will go play my EC now...

ozshadow wrote:Two of the few 000-28ECs I've played were great guitars and I've become fond of some of its characteristics and that surprises me. It was an evolution toward my 00 and OM. I've played a lot of OMs and have owned 2 now. I almost wonder if that V type or a thicker and wide neck makes a guitar a bit more snappy or gutsy. It dawned on me having tried it on similar dreads and OM models with same bracing but different necks. I very much enjoy having an 00 and an OM, so I'll say have lots of fun trying 000s for elements of both! |

Can anyone tell me how many different Eric Clapton editions (5 or 6?) have been made and the total production for each?

Black (Nera), White (Blanca), 42, 42B, 28, 28B, 42M 28M, and Bursts of both Ms. I believe that makes 10.

I second (or third) the motion that the 000-28EC (mine is a Sunburst) is a great sounding and looking guitar. Not many would disagree with as a fact. Just
seems there are wide variance between individual guitars (as there are with about any mfg), so you have to make sure the one you play and love, is the one you
buy.
The 'burst is harder to keep clean and Virtuoso polish helps with that. As someone earlier stated, a LIFER for sure! |

Thanks for the information about the models and I forgot about the black and white models. Just because I don't own one doesn't mean I can dream about
having one of my own some day. Over the years, I have heard a few naysayers about this model but neither Martin nor most of us can deny the success and
popularity of these guitars models.
Regarding totals and using Dick Boak's book and Walter Carter's Martin Book I filled in the following gaps: 461 - 000-42EC (1995) 200 - 000-42ECB (2000) One(?) - OM-50 for Eric (2000?) 500 - 000-028ECB (2002) Quantity? - 000-28EC (1996) In the standard series, I have a sunburst OM-35 and when I e-mailed customer service to see if they could tell me how many OM-35 guitars ended up with a sunburst finish they said they don't keep those records. I assume they do keep totals on the custom/signature models. |

Over the years, I have heard a few naysayers about this model but neither Martin nor most of us can deny the success and popularity of these guitars models. Absolutely true. I'm not sure of the numbers at all but the 000-28EC is quite an expensive guitar (on my wage it is anyway!) and I'd be surprised if it wasn't one of Martin's biggest sellers. I bought mine in 2007 and it's numbered around the 10,000 mark. Hats off to Martin, I think you have to get quite a few things right to move that sort of quantity of a guitar in that price range, given the time period involved. Snowy |

I have always loved my Clapton. Did not know why everyone I played from 1999 until I bought mine in 2005 was so easy to play and fit me like a glove until I
joined the forum and learned about "short-scale" and wide neck. I thought it was just because of the v neck. This is the guitar I play out with the
most for sound, looks and playability.

I have a '97 OOO-28EC (#1241) and it has just simply been an amazing guitar over the past 11-12 years. Mine is about due for some fret work due to pitting
but I keep putting the work off. My EC is my wife's favorite guitar to listen too.
If I could change one thing on my EC, it would be to have an even wider neck.
