Multiple guitar ownership is not a MUST. There's no harm in looking around at different models, to see what's out there and how it compares to what you
already have......but if you find something you like better, you can always sell what you have to fund something new......or you can just choose to be content
with what you own.

I can live with 5 Martins, a Rosewood and Mahogany Dread, Rosewood and Mahogany OM, and a stage guitar with electronics.
Rich,
Share when you can, volunteer when you can't. www.youtube.com/rmyaddison http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=748174 Some Martins......... |

Tidobear wrote:One guitar worked from 1977 to January 2007. I've scaled back but took an interest in electrics and other acoustics. I have an HD-28 like you and will say the OM-28V and my 00-18V are what I enjoy playing most even though my HD-28 is a very good copy. I'll suggest testing a lot of OMs because that would be my choice if I could only have one. I owned an OM from another maker that was sold a year ago and spent about a year playing OMs until buying the 28V about 6 weeks ago. Some observations as an HD-28 owner. One J-41 Special I played had some of the tone I like with the HD but that narrower waist and more neck. Some OMs have some bark and boom others don't have but can remain sweet and that 25.5 neck gives back more than a short scale when you dig into it. The 00 is just a sweet thing to hold and have as a sonic compliment so an 00 and mahogany many compliment what you have. One observation on GAS. I found the electrics to have more obvious differences if you compare some classics and my aging hands like playing them. You can go that route if you can't decide which Martin! I've sold around 5 guitar since going GAS crazy. If I had to give up all but one it would be keeping that OM for acoustic, my Princeton Reverb amp, and then a really tough choice over my PRS Hollow Body or the right Tele. Have fun shopping! |

You obviously haven't been in selling, or used the art of rhetorical persuasion. The art, as you might find out one day, is to talk up the subject in a way
that it is perhaps your wife who suggests you have another guitar. You of course resist, but not too much. Finally, you give in, and tell her that she is, as
usual, correct all along, and you do indeed need another guitar.
Get her to choose, because then the ladies go for the pretty ones, you know, the ones with all the pearl round the edges....... Practise....its an art worth the effort, and the reward. Trust me!! |

Alan, you da man!
Seriously, this strategy works for me, spent months talking to the wife about wanting a new guitar, but we couldn't afford it, but doesn't this one look nice, or this one, or this one, a few trips to the guitar store to try some out, honey I found one I really love, but I don't think I should get it now, we can't afford it, but it will always be worth something and the kids will have it when I'm gone. Which of these two do YOU like the best? Maybe I should just start saving and think about it next year. After a few months of this, it was she who was begging me to get off my butt and just get the damn thing. I resisted a little, but realized she was right, and eventually had to comply with her wishes. -Jim
