It's a 15" lower bout and 25.4" scale 14-fretter, which to me makes it an OM. But the body shape and details aren't Martin, so I will understand those who think I shouldn't use that designation. Pernambuco B&S, bearclaw Euro Spruce top, Mdagascar rosewood fretboard, bridge, outer headstock veneers and binding. Some custom curly maple herringbone and half-herringbone backstripe and top purfling, with more curly maple purfling elsewhere, and camphor burl rosette. Sound is full, clear, and focused, with that je ne sais quoi tunefulness that only "The Music Tree" can provide.

I've heard this guitar and three that Bruce Sexauer has made. They all had a notable clarity and full series of overtones from top notes to bottom. No harshness; nothing missing. One could almost say it is perfectly neutral, but that would not do it justice. One could also say that about a high damping wood such as maple, but where maple gets its neutrality from taking away evenly from all parts of the spectrum, Pernambuco's comes more from a positive contribution across the spectrum. It's like every note is just where it ought to be in terms of the back's contribution to bass resonance and treble reflection. Its combination of elasticity and very low damping have made it the wood of choice for bowmakers. Those properties also make for a great guitar. Too bad it has been so rarely available in guitar sets, and likely to be even less so in the future. Last Edited By: Howard Klepper 06/03/09 11:04 AM. Edited 1 times.

I think its now at level II.

(06/10/09 10:40 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I make my own marquetry for purflings; it gives me a way to be creative and make my guitars more truly custom designed. Usually I make a half herringbone pattern, and combine two strips if I want a full herringbone. This one is curly maple and a thin orange dyed veneer. Here's a closer shot of the back stripe; the rest of the back purfling is just curly maple: Here's an elaborate combination of half-herringbones and squares. Sorry it's not a very good photo: and another half-herringbone pattern; the rosette body is buckeye burl. This is where I find a lot of the fun of building. I don't think it is far forward; I think it's just where they should be. I've noticed that some people put them lower down. In terms of theory, the hole lower down will raise the resonant (Helmholz/main air mode) frequency of the box more, which I think is undesirable. The location I use also is closest to the player's ear and aimed right at the player. I can't see any advantage to putting it lower.
