With either my round neck dobro or a guitar. Anyone else who plays guitar style...what kind of slide do you use? I prefer the Duane Allman style coriciden bottle. I've tried the craftsman 3/4 socket wrench like Merle Watson used to play, but its just much too heavy. I like the tone, but man...its just too heavy! The coricidin bottle is much lighter. I seem to have so much more control and touch with it. And I can play faster without losing control. Anyone else? Diamond Bottlenecks is the right place for glass slides. I own quiet a few of them in different materials and shapes. I do like the Acousta Glide Slide as well, it's a brass slide designed by Leo Kottke.

To be honest though, I'm not much of a bottleneck player at all. I'm ok when I use open tunings on my acoustics bottleneck style, but the only electric I own is the Strat I mentioned and the action is really low and it has a locking tremelo, so I keep it in standard tuning when I play slide on it. I would like to learn to play in the style of Derek Trucks & Warren Haynes, but I'm thinking that I should get another electric with higher action to experiment on since I am very happy with my strat as it is for normal playing. Well, I hear ya there, as I am a 35 year Allman Brothers Band fan. Been following then since the beginning...all through the "bottoming out" Arista years, and now their return to greatness. Warren and Derek are special together, in the same way as Duane and Dickey were. Derek is really a one of a kind player. He actually playes in open E tuning, which is not unusual at all for slide, but he actually stays in open E when he plays straight lead. Now that IS unusual. Do you have any of the Derek Trucks Band recordings? I started playing an old acoustic (that got warped sitting in a pickup) for slide and went out and found the heaviest glass slide I could find in a music store - way heavier than a coriciden bottle which used to use when you could actually buy Coriciden. But I just found a Lap Dawg and it's got a lot more sustain and bottom end than any glass I've tried. (I play it on my lap,) But for electric that heavy glass works great!

(08/14/09 10:53 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I use the ubiquitous coricidan bottle for electric (Strat) and copper tubing from Home Depot for acoustic. I cut the tubing off at the right length, polish with emery cloth and 0000 steel wool. Sometimes I use the copper tube slides for everything as they definitely don't break when dropped. I find a socket just way too heavy. Rev George

I like slides to fit snugly at the second knuckle of my pinky and that socket size is perfect. It is heavy but I'm not that fast a player anyway! Keith 1943 0-18 1964 D-28
