Say d15dan, did you buy my Hwy. 1 tele or someone else in your group? Hope it's working fine. Nice to see it on your Myspace page. Miss that guitar.

Hey d18daddy, I'm sure it is your guitar if you recognize the blonde! David Whitman picked it up on Craigslist a year or so ago and he loves it. Actually,
we all love it. That guitar motivated me to start trolling around guitar shops, and eventually I brought home a 52RI. Teles are great!

Oops! I forgot to check the thread! (Back on EZboard, I used to get a mail when there was a reply, but I guess it died with the Yuku transmogrification.)
Yeah, Rick, as cozy as my basement man cave would be for a jam, our bullding on W.7th in St. Paul would work great if we wanted to get together... we have an art gallery in the main space, and it would be perfect for a jam. Would any weeknights work? An aside for those of us who bought ukes last winter (Rick, Steve)... has that ship sailed? I just sold my tenor, and it looks like steve's concert is on the B/S. I know Rick had one for sale a while back. I got sucked into the fad, and never played the dang thing once I got it. And I'm planning on going to the Three Crows show, Jon! Any week nite would be OK with me.
Guys- I returned to the Podium this week as I'm on vacation. Some nice guitars:Marty has "fixed up" a '69 Guild F212-what a sound!!It's a little beaten up,but has real charisma.A little too bulky and heavy for my needs however. The OMJM there I thought was the best Martin.... Was disappointed in the two O-16NYs-my humble,multi-modified '72 OO-18 would take them hands down.. Anyway it was real quiet and relaxed there today(Monday).A nice environment for a change.... Hope to see some of you this summer!! Gabe |

Yeah, I'm off of the Podium on Saturdays... just gets too crazy. (Plus, part of the cool thing was that Marty would do walk-in setups, but no more...
although, I haven't bought any guitars in a while, so I haven't needed his services!)
Wednesday is my normal jam night with my buddy (not a Martin nut, but makes up for it in proficiency)... We could do a UMGF jam one of those nights instead... - Chris 2006 000-18GE | 2001 D-15S | 2001 000-15S | 2006 5-15 Terz | 2006 Felix II | 1979 Silver Anniv. Strat | Big Mo M-2 Mandolin |

Hi Chris, Yes the Uke ship has sailed for me as well just sold my Uke here locally. Rick bought a Telecaster and amp last month and I just picked up a Classic
Vibe 50's Strat and scored a Blues Jr. at the Pawn shop a couple of weeks ago. We have been delving back into our electric playing as well as our
flatpicking.
Rick also picked up a Mandolin not to long ago as well. Here is a little clip of us playing a benefit at Ricks Church. . Steve |

Resurrecting this thread because I just got word from Jon Garon that he and Jack Lawrence will be at the Three Crows in Delano on Saturday, August 15...
that's a week after the big bluegrass fest at Rancho Manana (near Avon, MN). Sounds like Jack will be doing a workshop at someone's private residence
on Sunday, but you might need to contact Jon for more info on that.
I also heard that Phil Heywood and Tim Sparks will be there on Thursday August 13, 2009. (I took some fingerpicking lessons from Phil. Great guy, and he can play like nobody's business.) Three Crows Concert Series (Jon and Jack aren't listed there yet, but I'm guessing they will be soon.) - Chris 2006 000-18GE | 2001 000-15S | 2008 CEO-4R | 2006 Felix II | 1979 Silver Anniv. Hi Chris,
Thanks for resurrecting this thread. We have some great talent in MN, and those shows sound very nice. The Three Crows is a very nice place, with good food and a casual, close atmosphere. Just last weekend I was able to see Mary Flower (from Portland, who plays ragtime and blues) with Pat Donohue at the 318 in Excelsior, a similar sort of place that has lots of acoustic shows. It was a great show and, to top it all off, Pat let me check out his Pat Donohue signature model. What a nice guitar (#1, I looked), but I didn't realize it was a sitka top. It would be great to get the Martin (and other acoustic) guitar fans from MN together some time. David T. |

I'll have to check out the 318, David... never been there. Not in my neck of the woods, though... Pat does the occasional show at the Dunn Bros on Grand
Ave in my neighborhood of St. Paul. (Goes by the name of "Joe Fingers" when he plays there, though!) He actually lives just down the street from me.
We say hi when he walks by in the evening with his dog, but I've never had the opportunity to talk guitars too much. I need him to walk by when I'm out
on my front porch picking my 000-18GE!
BTW, The PD sig should have an Adirondack top... that's what the Martin site specs say, anyway... did Pat say it was sitka? Willie's American Guitars (also in my neighborhood) has an OM-30PD in stock. It's up in a glass case on the wall, and I've never asked to try it. I should, though, just for the heck of it. For jams, I love the 331 Club jam, on University Ave in NE Mpls... 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month at 1pm. I also hear there's a good jam at Merlin's Rest on E. Lake St. on Saturdays at 1pm. - Chris 2006 000-18GE | 2001 000-15S | 2008 CEO-4R | 2006 Felix II | 1979 Silver Anniv. Strat | Big Mo M-2 Mandolin |

Chris,
Pat is definitely a nice guy; I have spoken to him a couple of times at his shows. I know that he performs at Dunn Bros. sometimes, and I would like to see him there too. I have been there a few times for other performers, it is a nice place and I like their coffee. I am on the west side of the cities though, so it is a hike for me (like the 318 might be for you). I am pretty sure that his guitar has a sitka top. I didn't know the specs ahead of time, and it looked like sitka to me, so I asked him and he said it was. It didn't look like Adirondack, but I am certainly not an expert. It would be fun to try the one they have at Willie's; Pat's sure sounds nice. David P.S. For all the MN acoustic folks--one of my (and many others) favorite guitarists, Pete Huttlinger, is coming to the MN Guitar Society concert series at Sundin Hall (Hamline U in St. Paul) in September. Watch for it, as it will be a great show. |

I finally played the OM-30DBPD yesterday. No surprise, it's a really nice guitar. I've played a few other deep-bodied 00- and 000-sized guitars, and
I've always come away thinking they should have more oomph or something, given the deep body. This is the first one that really does.
I thought the neck felt wider than a normal 1-3/4" nut, but then I checked the specs, and sure enough, it's a 1-13/16". Not bad at all, though. Like the 000-18NB. I think, though, if I had that much to spend on a guitar, and I was gonna get an OM, I'd probably go for the OM-28 Marquis Madagascar... - Chris 2006 000-18GE | 2001 000-15S | 2008 CEO-4R | 2006 Felix II | 1979 Silver Anniv. Thanks, Gabe! Yeah, got that e-mail update from Meetup about Merlin's... Hopefully it'll get resurrected in the fall. I heard it was pretty good.
Who else is planning on going to the IMBA Bluegrass Fest next month up near St. Cloud (Rancho MaƱana in Richmond, MN)? I know I'll try to make it for at least one of the days. - Chris 2006 000-18GE | 2001 000-15S | 2008 CEO-4R | 2006 Felix II | 1979 Silver Anniv. Strat | Big Mo M-2 Mandolin |
