any recommendations for a DC hotel for Paul Mac show?? |

Can anyone here please recommend a motel near FedEx Field in Landover? August 1st, we'll be there to see former Wings frontman Paul McCartney. We'd
like to drive up Friday, see a few sights, and then the show Saturday night. Anything within walking distance, or will we be better off on subway?
Thanks....... Testing, testing... |

Jeff,
Much to wife's horror, I'm one of those Priceline "name your own price" addicts. Though it's not near the stadium (probably a subway or cab ride away), I booked a 4-star hotel in DC a few weeks ago for 82 bucks a night. I "won" a room at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel and it was within walking distance of the Mall, the White House, etc... nice clean, corporate style hotel. I'm sure someone will come up with a closer alternative, but if you're willing to chance it, you can get a pretty nice room for cheap, esp. in this economy, using Priceline. All of these big hotels have a ton of vacancies right now. Jason

Jason, I've stayed at the Mayflower. You'll love it; it's one of my favorites. I remember calling my wife the first time I stayed ther just to
describe the room.

I have stayed at the Mayflower as well. Do yourself a favor and order a martini at their bar in the lobby...it's pricey at 12 dollars, but well worth it
considering the fishbowl sized glass it was served in
Oh, and the rooms are nice too. Bring extra tip money for the Valet Parking.

I already stayed at the Mayflower and it was great, guys! Probably even had a martini, too! I was just recommending Priceline to Jeff... as long as you
"bid" on 4-star hotels in decent neighborhoods, I think it's worth the risk, esp. with all the vacancies.

I don't know where this is in relation to the venue but I have heard old town Alexandria is nice and has a lot of hotel offerings.
We are thinking of seeing DC this summer and are looking at hotels in that area which is also right on the metro-if that will take you to the show? As for priceline-I used it recently for a rental car in SoCal and saved a lot of money. I got a full size, miles included for $20/day. The "savings" off the lowest advertised rate was over $300!
