I played this guitar last week. Wow.
Now the strings were so new they were sticky on my fingers. Tight new top. But great sounding, punchy instrument with tight bass and very clear trebles and mids all the way up the neck. Lots more sound to come from this guitar with play.
It had some of the nicest wood grain in both the rosewood and spruce, if you like narrow and even grain, with just enough pattern to keep from being boring, of any new Martin I've seen.
In fact, the simplicity and beauty made it seem like one of the most elegant Martins of any vintage that I've ever held.
I wouldn't be writing this if I was saving my money to buy it, but I can't. Somebody's going to get a wonderful lifetime guitar.
Now I do like wide nut spacing and forward-shifted bracing sound, as I have a D-28GE and a vintage D-18.
But this guitar was really nice. Neither better nor worse than pre-war specs, just different in subtle ways. For someone, it'll be perfect.
And like many others before have observed, they have the most amazing collection of current Martins on the showroom floor and other stuff hidden away elsewhere. Plus instruments by other fine makers. What a store.
