Classic Mahogany, even if it isn't. I'd give 6 to 1 odds it is.

Sean, it's probably mahogany.
Andy that's a beautiful guitar. Congratulations. One thing I like about ChefBill's two X-models is that the HPL varies. That's kinda neat, actually.

Sean, somehow I missed your post.
From a distance, it looks a bit like khaya. But I think in the closer picture I see ripple marks and storied rays, which would mean mahogany. I've seen mahogany like this more often on Chinese guitars like Epiphones for instance. But on some American Guilds and other guitars, too. Henk |

Thanks guys,
I thought it was . That is the back of an L-03 , and I think that Larrivee uses, Sapele for their 03 models now ,but used Hog when they first started making them . I bought it new 6 years ago for right around $700 . Unbelieveable wood and guitar for that kind of money . Sean |

Yep, until fairly recently, Larrivee used mahogany on series -05, -03 (and -01). Now it's sapele for the lower series. Same tactics as Martin.
BTW, most mahogany I've seen on Larrivees had only minor interlocked grain, if at all. And relatively many backs and/or sides (as compared to other brands) were perfectly quartered, with visible ray striping or flecking all over the surface. Henk |
