(I guess I'm limiting this thread a little by the assumption we've got fingerstyle folks with more than one guitar who have their choice....unless you guys play fingerstyle on all your guitars....I'm just not there yet....) For some reason, I'm playing fingerstyle on my D41 exclusively (only playing for 6 weeks so far), but it's always been the guitar I'm most comfortable with. (I love the tone of my 42k2 better, but I just don't like to fingerstyle with it. Also my dad's 00021 would seem to be a better choice, but I started with my 41 and I'm making progress so I don't want to change up too much. What guitars do you guys use for fingerstyle?? I play a 00-18CTN for fingerstyle. Wouldn't mind the right 000-28 or 000-42 too. Support musicians in need -- join the Music Maker Relief Foundation

It has a fantastic sound, extremely well balanced, wonderful bass response and the string spacing and nut width were designed with the fingerpicker in mind. It is, in my opinion, the grail of Martin guitars. Play one, they are amazing. Satisfied, Tickled Too

Martin has started making them again as a regular model so check one out if you can. They may not be around very long. They also make it in 0 size. The best all-around fingerstyle guitar I've ever played was a '27 0-21 that I was caretaker of for about three years. I really like sound of the Martin 0 size and bare fingers. RobM 1919 00-21

I sometimes do on my D35, but that is not as easy or as clean as on my 00042VS or 00028EC that has wider necks, string spacing and thinner bodies. I tend to use the D35 for strumming songs mostly. For me perfect set-up is electric guitar action with some sort of pick-up installed. So far I'm working on getting there with a couple of guitars, (DSM and D-18GE). I also like the better separation I get from hog in comparison to rosewood for fingerstyle. (06/05/09 9:29 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I like my D-28M with its 1 3/4" nut and wider bridge string spacing over my D-42's 1 11/16" nut. There's just a tiny bit more space between the strings that makes it easier to finger pick for me. And my 000-28EC has the wide spacing but I can't seem to get used to the smaller body. I fingerstyle my D-28 as it's the only acoustic I have (other than my beater camper guitar) but if I were to choose a guitar specifically for fingerstyle I'd get an OMC-18 or -28 with 1/4" scalloped bracing and a 1 3/4" nut.

Both are great to play with fingers, the OM-21 Special has a little bit wider string spacing at the bridge which my right-hand fingers really appreciate. Snowy.

And of course, models like the 000-15S and MFG 000-16SRGT are built with fingerstyle in mind. (06/08/09 12:02 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The rule is simple...... larger/fatter fingers and hand = use a wider neck and wider saddle string spacing, and smaller/thinner fingers and hand = use a slimmer neck and not so wide saddle string spacing. Of course, there's always exceptions to the rule where you find little people choosing big necks and people with fat/large fingers choosing slim necks. Which goes to show rules can be useless when applied to everyone; yet they can also be useful when applied to the right people. Now I'm confused, so I'll confuse myself even more by saying any type of acoustic guitar can be successfully fingerpicked and any type of acoustic guitar can be unsuccessfully fingerpicked. I think I better shut up, have a cup of tea and go to bed! It's 2.30AM over here in OZ right now.
