Call me hard-bitten, but guitars - as nice as they sound and as pretty as they can look - are mere tools. I do take care with them and they stay pretty well
ding-free. They get a wipe down with a damp rag occasionally during a string change. But as for giving them names...
eh...

What do you call a dog with no legs?
It doesn't matter -- He's not going to come anyway........ Same thing goes for guitars too. |

Naming things is a human attribute. If there is something we come upon that has no name, we give it one. Most all of us here readily accept the name that
Martin has given the guitars we buy from them. Just because it isn't "Henry" or "Patootie" or "Dadgum Thing" doesn't mean
it isn't a name.
So if some of us here like to personalize guitars, why should anyone feel offended by it? Why put it down, or condescend about it? Mac calls his dishwasher "the dishwasher" but that's a name, isn't it? If you refer to your cat as "Cat" that's still a name, and actually a little more self-conscious than "Pookie" for my money. If the U. S. Navy can name its ships, and fighter pilots can name their jets, well, that pretty much makes naming inanimate objects okay with me. Anyone who owns a guitar has "earned the right" to name it if he or she wants, I reckon. I haven't given my guitars names yet, other than the ones with which they came from their makers. But that's mostly because I'm lazy.

I may be wrong, but I'm not far from it... |

I don't name my guitars, but don't be messing with my dishwasher 'Loretta'. God bless her, don't know what I'd do with out her. |
