That is impressive! I wonder how this guitar sound would compare with a D-18 Authentic.
Anyone know what puts the various string tones out of phase so as to cancel and what he does to get them to be in phase. Hank |

I know he had done is magic on those guitars before we could ask him on the you tube. The HD-28KM in the seres is mine. It's a cannon with lots of over
tones.

I saw Dan's Keb Mo video and was impressed so I assume that was yours?. Tell me about your reaction to the sound of your hot rodded guitar when you got it back? IIRC Dan installed taller frets on it. How long did it take to adjust? I see you have and 28EC and so do I. Do you think he could hot rod a 000-28EC? Hank |

Night and day difference! Wow! He definitely "cannonizes" them.

My 1964 D-28 is just fine many years after Dan's work. (neck set, bridge, bridgeplate, tall frets, nut, tuners and pins)
FWIW, he only does whatever you're comfortable with. RC

What are these so-called "Stevie Ray Vaughan" frets he uses? He puts those on frets 1-12, then other new frets on 12-15 or something, and then leaves
the rest alone.
I found it amusing watching the video about the 1965 D-21 he did. The player (Chris Sharp?) in the "pre-setup" pics looks sad and bored. Then he's all smiles and happy happy after the setup. That's gotta say something right there. I won't doubt at all that it sounds better in the video... but it would be interesting to watch what he actually does to the guitar. - Chris 2006 000-18GE | 2001 000-15S | 2008 CEO-4R | 2006 Felix II | 1979 Silver Anniv. I believe he does a great job in there with all those "hot rodded" guitars.Saw those videos too.Night and day!

I wouldn't trust a video or a recording.
The only way I would judge what he does is to actually play the guitar that has been modified. I've played so called "hot rodded" guitars before, and I was seldom impressed. Jim |

It would be nice to see the amp control settings and the Vu meter readings.

Hank, the 1st guitar he did for me was my 2004 clapton I was very happy with it. I'm about to send it back to have the Steve vee's installed on it.
There was no video on it. As far as sound levels Dan is not trying to pull the wool over anyones eyes Chris keeps it all the same and makes notes how close to
the mikes they are. What are these so-called "Stevie Ray Vaughan" frets he uses they are the donlop 6000 frets the large base fret. Latin

How long did it take to get your Clapton back and is the change as dramatic as a dread? I have an 03 000-28EC. What's a ball park cost? How long did it take you to get used to the taller frets. Hank |

Yes, for that guitar there was a difference as soon as I got it back it was as if it was aged more than 20 years it was louder, clearer, more articulated in
note separation. As far as the frets it only requires a lighter touch and you only go as far as the fret not down to the fret board. I'm sending her hack
for the Steve vee's very soon. I have the frets that are a step smaller. As far as price It ran me about 800 bucks for the works and its a keeper. One
thing to mention my Clapton has an Adirondack top on it with 1/4 braces.

cb00ne wrote:Hi Eb00ne. The reason I probably looked "sad and bored" was because I was fresh in from a month long tour in Japan. I was far from bored, having my wife with me for the first time in weeks, and not at all sad, knowing my already great guitar was about to get even better! As far as Dan does to the instruments: He explains clearly in the videos what he is doing. If you're talking about the exact procedure then the steps for one procedure would not fit into 20 YouTube videos. You also have to keep in mind that Dan, while willing to answer questions if asked, is not making video's to teach people how to setup instruments. I make all the videos on a Pro Tools system and the mic settings and levels are exactly the same before and after the video. There are no effects or no "mixing" tricks added. The only edits that are done on the audio and video are length and fade edits. The rest is 100% natural. All you have to do is listen to his voice to hear that. Hope this clears up any questions about Dan's work. |

Anyone know what puts the various string tones out of phase so as to cancel and what he does to get them to be in phase. The tempered scale. Dan claims that precisely setting the intonation with a strobe tuner makes a difference, but that ignores the fact that the only 'in phase' interval in the tempered scale is the octave. John |

Does anyone have any detailed shots of the peghead work. I would like to see what the tuners/repair looks like as well as the cut down tuner shafts. Thanks.
Interesting stuff indeed.

Chris,
Nice to see you here. Your CD "Good Fa-Air Side" is one of my all-time favorites! I saw you play a few times in John Hartford's band, and you sure made that "Lashbrooked" D-16 sound great! Best, John |
