My Merle Haggard impression |

Here's a little song I wrote myself ... that's a lie, Liz Anderson wrote it, Merle Haggard made it famous, and it's my favorite. The guitar is a
Martin OM-35, amberburst, light permafrost strings or whatever they call them. Trutones? No, that ain't it. Elixirs, there we go. I'll try some
fingerpicking but youtube is unnerving so I need to get comfy in front of the camera first. Sorry for the cheesy intro, I'm just foolin' around with
buttons. Heh ...

Nicely done Rob!
It's a great song and originally sung by the greatest singer/songwriter of our time. However Merle didn't write this song. It was actually written by Liz Anderson. It's often credited to Merle because it's a song that actually lived. It was like she wrote that song about his life though she didn't even know who Merle was. When Merle was just starting his recording career, he visited Liz at her home looking for some material. He said she sat there and played one would be hit song after another, and on an old organ no less. When she played "Fugitive", Merle knew he had to record it. Merle also found "Strangers" that evening which she had also penned and after recording it and having a hit with the song, Merle named his now famous Strangers after the song. Liz Anderson was a popular country singer in her own right and had a few hit songs. She is also the mother of country singer Lynn Anderson. k
