-2 for me this week, helped by the weather. The last couple of days it was too hot to eat.

I've found that drinking carbonated water with my meals is a good trick, it fills me up more than plain water. I just bought a case of San Pellegrino. Tastes great too.

I know what you folks are going to say but I need to hear it anyway...

Thanks in no small part to the support and gentle friendly peer-pressure I've gotten from this group, I've been successful in losing weight for the first time ever. At present I've descended from well into the "obese" range, to just over the normal range, and still progressing. I really do believe that the Martinfest 2009 Unofficial Biggest Loser Challenge has been the catalyst that has made the difference for me. The Monday morning weigh-in was a brilliant stroke (thanks, Rhys!), it's kept the pressure on many a weekend to prevent giving back the week's hard-earned progress. And seeing the progress of others, many of you who are also having great success, is somehow very encouraging and enabling.

I've never gotten smaller before, only bigger. Never. It's gotten to the happy point that I needed to buy all new clothes. I've gone from XL to M in shirts, from a 44" (or a tight 42") to 36" waist, and from 44PS ("portly short") to 40S in a suit or sports coat.

I've now got a few thousand dollars or more of oversize clothes that have gone into boxes in the attic. So far I can't bring myself to discard them for fear that I will somehow fall off the wagon and expand until I need them again.

So, please, let me hear it....

Jay,

We're all very proud of what you've accomplished! You joined us a bit later and succeeded more than most. BRAVO!!

Only one thing.....

No matter what that clothing cost you, you need to donate it, get it out of the house, and put it out of your mind. I do recall having a really seriously depressing, psychological problem with that, like all my hard earned money was just being thrown away. I remember trying on some suits I had paid quite a bit for, not being able to face the fact that I would never wear them again because alteration was just not possible.

Trust me on this one point...do NOT save anything larger than where you want to be for the rest of your life. If you do, you will rely on knowing that those pants, shirts, suits, etc. will be there for you when you slip a bit and put on a few pounds, as some of us are inclined to do. It can destroy your incentive to get back on track because they're suddenly more comfortable than what you had changed to. GET RID OF THEM. Use Goodwill, sell them on Ebay, whatever you choose, but do NOT put them in the attic!

OK, end of lecture. Keep up the GREAT work.
