The way the sign-up list for open mike at the Factory has been handled in the past has always provided for a number of UMGFers to perform and Mac usually gives preference to those UMGFers who have not yet performed at the factory. It has always worked fair and well. In fact, it really startled me that I got a spot on my first sign up in 2005 when I wasn't even sure if I would actually have the nerve to do it as I didn't know anybody on the forum by face and had never done an open mike performance before then. Also, I don't believe anyone who signed up ahead of time when the Sticky Thread was posted has been left out in the four years I have been going to Martinfest, as I have offered to Mac to give up my spot for any new people wanting to perform each year, but have been able to play at the factory every year. This year might be different for me, but we'll see. So I think the way that the Martin on the Main open mike worked out was great last year and will be the same this year. Besides, there were venues all up and down Main Street with chairs labeled for guitar players that provoked many and improptu performance by UMGFers and others. Was never a problem. If there's more folks this year than the time-frames can handle, that's also fine. If it's Saturday I'll go jamming down Main Street, at least as far as the first bar with air conditioning. If it's in the park, I'll be one of them sitting over on the hill with the other guys, watching their hands as they play better'n me. Nothin' to it. Never set foot outside the square from the time I arrived pre-set up until after Mac lead `This Land Is Your Land' to close the show. In fact when I got back to the UK I was surprized to see the photos of the activities elsewhere in Nazareth. Hadn't had a clue about any of it. But if you think you worked hard last year, you're Team Captain this year - heaven help you!

He handed me his 000-28 lefty and I sat down on the chair on the stage to play a little to check out his guitar. Before I knew it, there was a crowd of people around listening.
