has anybody here played the Martin 00042 M EC that was released at the beginning of 2008? Do you think it's a real upgrade vs the 00028EC, in terms of tone, playability?
thanks!

I saw one on the factory floor this summer [a burst]. It was BEAUTIFUL. That upgrade alone made me want one. Have not heard one yet.

Tone - definitely
Playability - about the same. |

Well, if playability is the same, it's great! I have a 00028EC, it's so easy to play! Now, if tone is better, I'm in trouble...I may want to get
it! I'll have to put my 0028EC on craiglist to finance the 00042M...

In December of last year I purchased a 000-42 MEC. I have been very fortunate to have owned some outstanding Martins, several Brazilian D-45's including a
'69 D-45 and many other high end limited editions as well as mid 40's to early 50's Martins. Generally I have been opposed to buying a
"new" Martin as I never thought that they would sound as good as a 20 to 60 year old Martin. I kept hearing how great the 000-28 EC was, so I finally
went to a store and tried out a new EC. I was truly impressed with the sound, playability and quality of the wood and workmanship. Since I generally don't
follow the new Martins, I felt that I had to do my some research to see if there was anything better than the 000-28 EC. Then I read about the 000-42 MEC, and
it has all the specs that were important to me, a short time later I located a new 000-42 MEC and negotiated a great price so I pulled the trigger. Initially,
I was hesitant due to the high "bling" factor, but heck I'm only looking at the neck when I play so I have gotten over the bling factor. I was
absolutely stunned when I opened the case for the first time. The workmanship is flawless, and the sound is nothing less than incredible. The sustain is clear,
bright and never ending. The action is like a top end jazz guitar and the sound projection is strong. Overall the guitar left me speechless, it is by far the
BEST sounding Martin I have owned or played in the past 30 years. I use this guitar for finger picking the blues, and I've never used a pick on the guitar.
I'm sure that if I used a pick I'd have to register it as a Lethal Cannon.
Bottom line is if your budget can support a 000-42 MEC then I would strongly recommend getting the 000-42 MEC over the 000-28EC. Right now I'm thinking about selling my OM-28LE and searching for a 000-28 EC as a replacement. The MEC is one guitar that I will never sell and that is a strong statement coming from me. |

Thanks HD28BLE. Your message finalize to convince me, and I'm going to pull the trigger on a 00042M EC. I'll sell my O0028EC to finance part of it. Let
me know if you would be interested in seeing this guitar!

Congrats Bertrand. Let me know when you get it. My custom 00042VS should be in next week - if Martin can ship in the cold.

I just get it today! I did not have much time to play it, but it's a beautiful instrument, above my expectations in terms of finish! I hope I have more
time tomorrow, I'll let you know how it sounds!

Congrats Bertrand. I was wondering if yours came in.
I am still waiting on my 00042VS Custom. I think its on a "cold hold" due to the temperatures in Nazareth preventing shipping to Fl and then to Louisiana. Don't forget the pictures.

How many 00042 M EC guitars were made? Are they only available as a custom order? I did a web search and find none for sale. Where are they?
|
|||

250 of them were made, it was a limited edition.
I know that 3 months ago, there was one for sale on the bay...According to Martin website, no more shop still has one for sale. |

Hi all
I just quickly put some samples of my 00042M EC and my 00028EC here: http://www.soundclick.com...efault.cfm?bandID=954528 Bith guitars are set up with Martin 12 54 strings; guitars straight in the mac through Apogee Duet, no effect. Please forgive the poor quality of the recording (I'm a beginner...), and of my playing... Bertrandtexas |

Hi everyone,
I've posted new samples from the 00042MEC and the 00028EC here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=954528 Click on "before 28" and "before 42". There are many errors and faults, but the idea is only to hear the differences between the 2 guitars. It was a one shot take, during the bath of the kids... |

Very Nice Bertrand. The 42 definitely has the bass going for it as well as very crisp on the trebles. The 28 don't sound shabby either. I need to learn
those licks as well.
Thanks for posting
