Does that mean they're all cowboys?

I am always amused when this topic comes up and it does come up a lot. If you like the Elliott, and I do, use it. If you don't, use something else.
Instead, this topic always seems to degenerate into a "mild" insult fest where a person is either too much of a yahoo to appreciate something nice or
is too trendy to realize they have spent too much for something and are, therefore, not as smart as the guy who uses something cheaper. If the money is coming
out of my wallet, I don't need to clear it or justify it to anyone else and I think the same is true for the guy who wants to use something else. Just do
it and play the damned guitars. The rest does not really matter.

What LJ said.
I put it up because someone asked if having the capo behind the nut would affect the sound. I figured everybody knows TR puts his in his pocket and these guys (except KS) do different. So, do what you wanna.

Question for Elliot users... | ||

Does it ever get in the way when your fingers are close to the nut on the first two strings. I had a Paige that would dig at my finger, so I switched to a
Shubb.
I'm trying out an Elliot this weekend. Thanks

I think most of us take this all as good natured ribbing .. Heck, it's just a personal opinion and decision on a guitar accessory..
Telling people to "and play the damned guitars" sorta drifts away from the intended friendly spirit of the fun. After All, this is a guitar forum where these subjects can, and should, be discussed, and folk's opinions about the subject matter should be invited and welcome... If it upsets you and pisses you off, don't read it.. ima |

No, what I said was said with tongue firmly in cheek and not meant to impy being ticked or anything else. I did start off by saying I was amused, you know,
Imapckn. I am and was and will be again. Right now I am picking my damned guitar, though, and cussing myself for forgetting to bring my capo!

I AM A TRUE "CAPO EXPERT"! Why? Because I have been playing for 45 years and only know three chords.
I have a Paige capo. It's good. I've had Shubb capos. They're fine. I've had several Dunlop toggle capos. They're okay. I have several Kyser capos. I only use the one that let's me play in dropped D. (Okay, make that four chords.) I have elastic capos from the '60s. How did I ever use them? I have a capo that I bought in Germany. It fits over the fret??? It's worthless. I have two Elliott/McKinney Capos. They are without a doubt the best capos that I have ever used! My guitar does not go out of tune when I use an Elliott/McKinney Capo! They are made like a piece of fine jewelry.

kydave wrote:Yes, yes and, well, no! The one "problem" with the Elliott is that when clamped behind the nut it interferes with the Hercules mechanism. This is not a problem for me given that I rarely use both the capo and stand at the same time, but it will require an extra step to either remove the capo or set it somewhere below the nut when using a Hercules stand. (Let me hasten to add that I have several Elliotts and Hercules and think both are best in their class!) |

I have a G7 [bought at the NAMM "discount price"], a coupla Shubbs, and a coupla Kysers as well. I'd have preferred to pay an average of their
prices when I ordered my McK-E, but 1] it's quite a bit "better" for my uses 2] one can't find a McK-E for Shubb/etc prices.
I acknowledge the concept that a higher price makes some folks presume a for-sale-item is "Better"; there are also cases where a higher price reflects not only marketing schemes but the effort-to/quality-of manufacture of the item regardless of what "market prices" are. Unsure how many of us would leap to buy $1.99/lb filet mignon - we'd wonder "what's wrong with it..." Not everyone needs or wants filet mignon. I still have use for Shubbs & G7, gave one Kyser to one son & will mirror to t'other soon. YMMV. |

I'm a capo junkie and will probably buy one of those Shubb lites.
I really like the PW too. I have about one of everything. It's a sickness.

At this point it easy enough to loosen the paige capo slightly and let it slide down a few frets. I do not retighten it until I pick the guitar back up. To me it doesn't take any more time than taking a shubb on and off and I like the stand so much more than my old ones that I'll put up with it. Jeff

Here is my original McKinney capo that I have owned since 1985. I wouldnt take a mint for it. I have had it parked on the nut since 1985 and I haven't
noticed the guitar sounding "dead" or muted. But it is whatever works best for You. Here is a video from a few years back and this same capo is
parked right at the nut. Why do I own the McKinney? because I like owning the best and with a capo this expensive You are going to keep up with it. IM sure
those other capo's are great but as long as I have this McKinney with me I won't be looking at them anytime soon. Z. F.

I have used one now for several years. I find my guitars stay in tune when I play with the capo and I do not have to retune when I take the capo off. I can
adjust the tension just enough so that the strings do not buzz and do not go out of tune.
I also have two of the paige capos that are somewhat similar in style but I do not find they work as well. I also have the Shubb? and Kyser style capos and I really am not happy with these because I find they cause the guitars to go out of tune. The Elliott/McKinney capo also looks awesome. And lastly, if it works for Tony Rice, it should meet my expectations. Zane, that was great picking. We would all like to see and hear more. Kirk |
