So I took it to a gig last night and I have to say I was rather disappointed. I've really gotten used to the D-18. The 314ce (while still a nice guitar) seems like it just doesn't really compare to the D-18. I know they're completely different shapes, woods, electronics, etc., but I guess I never really expected to like my D-18 that much more. Now I'm actually starting to think about selling the Taylor.
For comparison sake, I've been doing a little thinking:
Unplugged Tone--D-18 wins by a mile.
Plugged In Tone--D-18/Lyric by a good margin but I like that the Taylor has tone controls on the guitar (I wouldn't want those knobs on my D-18, though).
Playability--Fairly even. Both play great for my purposes (strummy three chord troubador songs) but he Taylor feels smaller because of the narrower waist of the GA shape.
It seems like the more I compare them, the more I like the Martin. I do like the easy neck resets that Taylor offers, but hopefully neither will need that procedure for quite a few years.
