Howdy,

This is my first post here at the UMGF. I've had my Martin D-28 since the Spring of 1997 whne I bought it new. It was made in 1993, according to the info on the Martin Website.

Truthfully, I've been playing my Rickenbackers and Teles so much more over the years, I've overlooked my expensive acoustic treasure. My father never was impressed with my guitar-playing and often remarked scornfully: "Ya oughta git a Martin, after all Willie uses one.."
After my father passed in 1997, I took his advice to heart and bought my D-28 over a D-18, preferring the warmth of Rosewood to Mahogany.
Over the last week I've been strumming my D-28 some 2+ hours per day and having a ball! I'm glad to have found this forum and it has helped me appreciate my wonderful D-28 even more.

Larry

I would immediately buy a 00-15 with a 1 and 3/4 fret board, a real rosette and some open tuners (house brand is fine). I own a 00-15 and it is a great guitar. I'd sell my D-18 and my OM-16GT before the 15. These changes would not be earthshaking-I'd even delete the tuners and the rosette if necessary. Why does Martin produce only (2) 00's with a wide fretboard ( both at aroung $3000.00) list and no working man's model? The 00-15 gets great reviews, I know they are selling so give me an upgrade PLEASE. Your opinions in this matter are welcome.

Well, I just went in and turned on the TV and on Ovation was a 45 minute BBC concert with Crosby and Nash from 1970. I only got to see the last half of it. But it was far out, I can tell you. Even the hairstyles and kerchief ties in the audience were genuinely entertaining.

But those matching Brazilian rosewood D-45s were gear fab to say the least. Brick red, perfectly straight grained sides, baby bottom smooth tops, less than a year old and the tv studio lights made the pearl inlay dance around like lit fuses. Chimey and brilliant and clear as bells.

The songs I saw were Teach Your Children, Right Between the Eyes, Lee Shore and (the then brand new) Traction in the Rain.

Those VOICES! Those D-45s! It was really great. I hope to catch again and tape it. If anyone can tape it and transfer it to DVD, I will be happy to pay for my copy.

It was interesting to see the Cros playing with a pick and then finger picking with his middle and ring finger, ala Bob...

No, I didn't get anything ELSE. (Yet...)

I was just thinking back to the hectic pace of last week while playing "Blue", and realized how easy to deal with the staff at Willie's American Guitars were. I saw the 00C-16FMBUAE on their website, sent them an email asking if it was still available, and got a quickl reply that asked me to call for their price. When I called Roger gave me all the information I needed, and then I gave Roger all the information he needed to suck the $$ out of my bank account. Molly took care of getting the guitar set up and prepped for shipping, and even asked what strings I played so she'd get the setup right-on. I also got a great price on a little "onesie" for Bethany Anne. Great packing and fast delivery, too.

Add Willie's to one of my approved guitar stores - I'll be checking their website often, and would recommend other UMGF'ers do as well.

Tony

(Forum intro - page...

"Martin doesn't MAKE bad guitars."
- Willie Nelson

This is the quote at the bottom of Michael Segui's signature. I bought my guitar online...and I love it. Had I had a dozen of them to choose from, I have no idea if I would've chosen the one I've got. We all wax ad nauseum about how wonderful these guitars are, but I really haven't played many of them. With mostly electric guitar experience, I know that there are many misses amongst Fender, Gibson and other nice electrics. I haven't heard a word about a bad sounding or playing Martin around here. I admit, I've only been here a short time, but my question is this:

Does Martin make bad guitars??

I know we're all searching for "the one" and maybe a Martin that you had wasn't quite it, so you traded, sold, or otherwise don't own it. And we've all seen a really lousy playing strat, or a heavy dead Les Paul. But have you really ever seen a dog of a Martin?

Thanks for the good...
