I set out today to add a new Martin to the stable. I had my mind set on a 000-16GTE. I actually found a MC-16GTE that sounded superb and was almost ready to buy. As I walked around the store trying not to be overly impulsive, I talked with a clerk who was touting the Rain Song. I lost a nice Dreadnaught Rain Song in a divorce so I was well aware of their merits. I had been thinking for sometime that I would like to fondle the new Projection Series Rain Song made with the mahogany back, sides and neck. Knowing for sure he wouldn't have one and I couldn't be tempted I asked about them.... To my surprise one had recently arrived but was not yet on display.

I could go on and detail what happened over the next hour, but suffice to say the Rain Song P-GA 1000 Grand Auditorium size cutaway with Fishman Prefix Plus electronics simply outplayed and outclassed the Martins. Much to my dismay I walked out with a new Rain Song....kind of wishing I had kept my inquisitive mouth shut and...

I've played a D18 for 30 years but had been considering an 000-size guitar for fingerstyle, as this is what I play mostly these days.

My Mother-in-Law passed away recently and she had given me a monetary gift in appreciation for the work I'll be doing as executor for her estate. I didn't want it to go into the general family pot; rather, I wanted to use it to purchase a gift that would be special and could be passed down to my sons. Given her love of music, I thought a new guitar might be in order.

I had played a few guitars every time I was in Elderly over the past few months, and today when I went they had the Graham Nash model out. We purchased it from Appalachian Bluegrass in Catonsville, MD. I tried about 8 guitars in my price range, but the D-16RGT sounded the best to my ears. For what it's worth, my wife thought it sounded the best too, even thought she liked the look of the Taylor guitars better. The only other one I was considering was the DC-16GTE, but the dead strings kind of turned me off. Howard, the salesman who was helping me, changed the strings, but the combination of the cut away, and the lack of rosewood made a difference in the sound, I still liked the D-16RGT better.

Now to my questions:

1.
I had my Ge for a month when the bridge lifted the first time. I fibnaly had it fixed last spring at the nearest Martin repair shop. It lasted about two weeks and lifted again. This was last spring. I was at a jam about a month ago in Watertown, NY, and played with a Guy named Dave Nichols. It was wierd because just after that, there was a thread on this forum about him, and his business called Custom Pearl Inlay. He said that he would do the job and that I would not have any problem when he was done. I am keeping my fingers crossed this time that it holds up.
He also said that he has sold many of these GE's and has had no trouble with any of them lifting. Its amazing to me that there have heard of so many bridge lift problems from people on this forum. I think that forum memebers should get the cream of the crop and leave the others for the general population. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/eyes.gif...

If I drop the guitar and punch a hole in it, does the warranty get this fixed for me for free, minus shipping to Penn?
