			<description><![CDATA[ Toying with the idea of a custom for the future. I&#39;ve been reading/searching about Carpathian, German, Alpine etc. I know that the stiffer light woods will
lend more clarity. I think the thing I love most about Martins is the warmth, darkness, woodiness. I&#39;m an OM player. From my reading it appears that the
Euro tops fall somewhere in between sikta and adi with respect to warmth (and clarity). Can any players chime in? Ideally I&#39;d be trying to achieve the same

			<description><![CDATA[ It seems to me there were some Martins I saw before &#39;70 where the wood looked so unusual I thought it might not be D. Nigra. I&#39;ve owned around 400
pre-&#39;68 guitars with Brazilian on them somewhere; about 120 of them Martins, about 80 of the Martins had rosewood bodies.  Worked on many more. Two three
of the older ones, particularly a &#39;48 D-28,  stood out as significantly different rosewood (not EIR) than the others. Anyone else ever notice this?

			<description><![CDATA[ I started a thread in the tech forum, but it was suggested I post a pic here in the log cabin.

For me, the easiest way to spot Red Spruce was wide grain (in newer guitars anyway).  I just had my D-28 Marquis re-topped at Martin, and the grain is much
tighter than the old top, or any I have seen.  Is there another way to confirm red spruce by looking at it?

authentic the grain needs to be wilder than that of sitka. I have seen a lot of pre war Martins and purchased a few and most have red spruce with closed grain
that sounds excellent. Can anybody tell me what the big deal is with wide grain Adirondack? I also have a 51 D28 that I had heard, might have something other
