This is a quick update as to the status of the design of the UMGF Limited Edition Guitar No. 1. Thanks to all who have provided input through the polls and individual posts!

I met with Dick Boak today (5/23) and we went over the results of the polls and some of the various options available. In discussing these options and the comments, the goal continues to be to create a unique guitar for the UMGF at a price that is not beyond reason. Here’s where we are:

One poll said $2,000 was the price most voters wanted. But someone else pointed out that the features would have to be very bare bones to accommodate that price. Almost certainly abalone, extensive inlays or even things like herringbone trim would likely be unavailable. And you all know how I feel about the non-dovetail neck option.

Would be a chance to say the UMGF was the first model ever to sport the "put feature here". Whatever that might be.

Four-piece tops have been mentioned. Maybe some alternate inlay material besides abalone or paua, or white plastic.

What was so interesting about it was this: from the front it looked like Vintage Style 28, even had an Adirondack top.

But the back and sides were mahogany. Nicely bannded at that.

Still had the Vintage Style 28 backstripe, ivroid binding.
