Are there any forum members in the area of Santa Maria/San Luis Obispo? I've been playing again like many here who stopped during those child rearing years...anyway, wanted to see if there is anyone who would want to hang out with a 'wannabe' good player, but will only ever achieve mediocrity at best....maybe jam sessions, opportunities to teach and learn at the same time, and have just plain fun. I'm not really a bluegrass player, but I'd be willing to learn a bit. More of a finger picker wanna learn blues kind of player.

Taking a family road trip to western New Jersey the last week of March... my wife's grandparents live in Milford NJ... it's near Frenchtown, NJ, and Easton, PA, and not far from the Martin Factory, etc...

Just curious if there are any open jams (bluegrassy, old-time, folk or whatever) around that timeframe. We'll be in town from weekend to weekend, so probably mid-week, around the 31st, would be best... (If I can convince my dear wife I deserve a break from extended-family fun!) I saw the thread about Skyefest, in the National Hotel in Frenchtown... sounds great, so you just have to move that one up a bit, and to the middle of the week!

Anyway, just seeing what's going on in that neck of the woods... I'll for sure have my mandolin, but maybe I'll bring a real guitar (instead of my FeLiX) if there's room in the van on the trip...

The concert will be held at University High School at 32nd and Pines Rd. in the Spokane Valley. It starts at 7 PM. Cost is $15. Custer's Grass Band is performing a tribute to Flatt and Scruggs. It is a great show - they sound a lot like Earl and Lester - scary close at times. This will be a lot of fun for anyone who enjoys Bluegrass, or any acoustic music.

If anyone wants more info, contact me in this thread, or backchannel.

Hey all,

There's talk afoot about having a Skyefest in Frenchtown NJ as soon
as I can get Pete at the National Hotel to get us a slot on some
Saturday. I'm hoping for a cut on rooms (although fighting over 12
rooms total could get ugly) and I already know he gives open bar/kitchen or a gift certificate for lodging/dining to performers and the MC/sound guy on open mic nights. For sleeping over we also have a B&B in town and Comfy-type places within 15 minutes and then of course there's my place, six blocks from the National, with couches, a spare bedroom, and of course the floors. There's a front porch for pickin' and a backyard with fire pit and fireplace for everyone to gather, pass the bottle, and even sing Kumbaya if you so choose, after a day/evening of playing at the hotel.

For those
wondering, Frenchtown, pop. 1,400, is an artsy/antique/boutique/biker
tourist...

The Minstrel Coffeehouse's monthly Open Stage is next Friday March 12th in Morristown, NJ.

The Minstrel is the weekly concert series of The Folk Project of northern NJ. We've been presenting high quality acoustic concerts weekly for over thirty years. In fact, several Martin signature artists have headlined our shows.

Once a month we forgo the professional, paid talent and open our stage to anyone and everyone that is of a mind to make some music. We attract performers ranging from 6 year old beginning guitar students to seasoned semi professional performers hoping to get booked as an opening act for our regular concerts as well as every level in between.

For a little over a year now I have had the pleasure of playing the part of host/mc for one of the most remarkable open stages around.

We work hard to create a safe, nurturing all inclusive atmosphere for the novice performer. You can get up on our stage and flat out bomb and we will...

I don't think I really have to explain this to this crowd, but:

---
Internationally renowned guitarist and luthier Wayne Henderson will be performing at a rare house concert in NYC.

Henderson, who has been awarded a National Heritage Fellowship, has made guitars for Eric Clapton, Doc Watson, Tommy Emmanuel, and Gillian Welch, among others, and was the subject of _Clapton's Guitar: Watching Wayne Henderson Build the Perfect Instrument._
Wayne has played at Carnegie Hall, The White House, A Prairie Home Companion, and the Rugby Rescue Squad Pot Luck Dinner (in his hometown of Rugby, Virginia, population 7). He plays in a unique and intricate old-time style that will delight guitar geeks and casual music lovers alike. He also tells very funny stories.
