I have a Martin JC16-RE Aura that i would like to sell. It is in great condition with no dings or scratches of any kind. The electronics work great. No Disappointments with this guitar.

I bought the guitar used about 2 years ago and although it is the finest sounding guitar i have ever played, i have never gotten used to the neck shape and slightly wider nut this model has and i therefore find myself playing other guitars i own.

I would rather sell outright but will consider any trade offers... $1,300.00 Located in Marion Indiana

Pictures available upon request..

I was reading the recnet Banner Thread here at the UOMGF and noticed that the photo of a Banner SJ looked like the Soundhole was larger than the standard size. I realize this was likely an illusion but I decided to ask anyway. I have a '44 Banner SJ that my Luthier said was likely enlarged through the "restoration" process (the hole had wear so they cut it larger at the edges). It is definitely larger than my '46 J-45's Soundhole. Does nayone know if the size varied at any point or were they all standard in which case mine was cut for sure. I appreciate any input you might have!

We've all see different dumb things that people have done to the vintage guitars that we love. The offenses can be little things like installing incorrect tuners, installing a different shaped pickguard, switching to jumbo frets, or maybe having that new brass nut made. Switching from infractions to misdemeanors, we can see home refinishing, screwed-on pickguards, using wood dough to fill in missing binding, or large decorative inlays of objects into headstocks. Felonies deserving jail time are such things as sanding a top too thin to use or replacing it altogether, installing a large rosewood bridge plate with epoxy, or using alternative materials for significant size patching of backs, sides, or tops.

On a phone call this morning, Marty Lanham and I were gleefully recounting some of the guitar butchery horrors that we've seen in the last 35-40 years. The one that takes the cake for me is something that Marty saw when he was on the repair staff at...

Hi all.
First of all, Martin-wise, I love my '56 D-18 and it plays really nicely. Even with medium strings (which I'm told are better suited to it), it's fairly easy and painless to play.

My Bourgeois Slope D, alas, continues to be a source of pain and frustration. I am the second owner, and when I bought it 3-4 years ago, I asked the dealer what gauge strings were on there, because they felt so stiff. I was sure they were at least mediums, but was told they were lights (.012). Since buying it, I've tried .011's and they are a bit easier to play, but the tone suffers. .012 gives the best tone, but the strings feel stiff and are painful to fret, especially near the nut. I have read that Bourgeois are setup rather high action from factory, since a lot of players who buy them are flat pickers or bluegrass. I do about 50:50 picking/strumming and fingerpicking, so need a setup that's good for all styles, without giving pain. I...
